I put in a tape drive on a Win2000 machine that's acting as a small file server. Using the included backup software, I was running into a snag. I was doing a couple test schedule runs, and if the tape was blank the backup ran. However if the tape had something on it, the test scheduled backup would not run even though in the setup options I selected to overwrite anything that was on the tape. The error message in the log was that the tape was not blank.
Is there a way around this? I've never worked with Win2000's backup software before, and couldn't find any solutions searching google. My only guess is that when the tapes all "belong" to the same backup job, only then the software will allow the tape to be overwritten. I'll just have to wait a week to see how that goes.
