Using the Citrix Connection to Map Drives Locally

What I was wondering about is if it was possible to use a Citrix connection to access files via my local machine. I can use the Citrix ICA Client to access a distant desktop with its own mapped drives, but what I want to do is access those same mapped drives/files using my local machine. I want to use my own programs that are not installed on the Citrix connection to edit the files that are only accessible through Citrix.

Is it possible to use that Citrix connection to access the files directly? I wish I did not have to move the files from their mapped location in Citrix, to my Desktop for editing, and then back to their mapped location every time I want to change something. I'm just wondering if it's possible to set up something to do this. Any suggestions are appreciated. Thanks.

I think you mean to use locally installed apps to access remote data.

Either "that is what the citrix connection is for" or you need to use something like a VPN connection. I am assuming that you are something like a tele-worker.

If you access the data from locally installed applications it will be extremely slow. Why? becuase all the data is going to have to be delivered to your local application. Whereas with the citrix connection the application is local to the data. THerefore will have the benefit of LAN 10/100/1000 Connection speeds.

Eh? It means that say a 3Mb file needs to be edited then it will open instantly(ish) in Citrix, if you try to load it via and internet/ISDN/dial-up that is going to be extremly sloooooow.
