Using tables

I do not like working with tables in Notes and prefer the options and interface of Word. However, I have tried importing a file or just cut and paste to insert the tables into Notes and am getting different results and neither is retaining the desired features of the Word table.

Example:
I have a 3 column table.
The first column may be empty in some rows or the last column might be empty in some.
I have the first row shaded.

Problem:
Cut and paste will not properly bring in the rows where the first column is blank for a row. It moves the contents of the 2nd column into the first column.
It does bring the shading.

Import as HTML retains the correct columns but does not bring the shading. It also appears that I can not change the width of an HTML table?

Import as Rich Text combines everything into a single column.

Does anyone have any suggestions for easily working with tables in Notes? The Notes interface for working with tables is very hard to use, mostly because you can not click on a border and change the size.

Thank you,
Mike
