Ok...need help with a simple problem here...
I have created a table with Dates in the first column and ticker symbols across the top.in each additional column is the closing price for each stock on the date specified....what I now want to do is create a place where I can calculate the % gain/loss for each stock, for each day by dividing one line by the line above..In excel this is easy...here I am having all sorts of problems..How do I do this?

Thanks

When you say "ticker symbols across the top" do you mean the actual field names are the name of the ticker like:

mydate XYZ123 ABC345 IOOXX
1/1/03 99.2 22.2 100.2
1/2/03 93.1 23.0 101.2

Or are you storing data like:

mydate ticker price
1/1/03 XYZ123 99.2
1/2/03 XYZ123 93.1

etc...

Hats off to (Roy) Harper

I am currently using the format of the first table...however if you think there is a better way to do this...am happy to listen.

(Am also using date as Primary Key)

Do it the second way, will be much easier to maintain and report on later on. Make PK date + ticker.

When you have gotten this done, repost your initial request in the Access SQL forum.

mpastore,

Please elaborate. I see little difference in selecting the two prices / date for the same symbol between the two and would like to understand your rationale.
