I am not able to register to AS2000 servers using the new SQL Server Management Studio that comes with SQL Server 2005. I'm in the Analysis Services area, but when I try to register to the AS2000 server, it says it doesn't exist. I can, however, register to these servers using the SQL Server 2000 Analysis Server Manager, so I know the servers are running. IS this supported?

It appears that it's not. I'm having the same problem. My 2000 AS Servers are patched to SP4.

Well that is just misguided on Microsoft's part. With all their people working on hi-tech issues, the least they could have done in 5 years was made that work. I feel like I have a new car, but need to keep my old one to listen to the radio.

I looked over just about every doc in BOL related to AS administration, and they say nothing about it too. You would think one little blurb somewhere would at least have saved us some time searching. Simply amazing ...

One possible reason that you can't register a AS 200 DB in SQL2005 Management studio is possibly due to the underlying structure of the Databases, dim, cubes etc. AS 2000 is based upon the DSO api where as from what I have been told by resources and seen 2005 is not based on DSO.

I submitted this to Microsoft as a Bug. We'll see what they say.
