Using SP on a remote server

I have installed Sharepoint on a remote server that's sitting on a workgroup and not part of our domain. I've created a top-level Team site and can see it if I go to IE and use the IP address followed by site url.

Thing is, if I use Outlook to send a shared attachment, I get the error :-

"Shared attachments are not available for this location."

It could be the server not recognising the domain users but when I log in via the IE it asks for the login details. I setup another SP site on a local server that is on the domain and that works fine, but the boss wants it to be remote in case our servers go down.

Site creation for users is enabled.

OK, so I gave up trying to do this and went for a hosted trial via CobWeb. Actually, I went to Server World first but four days later and they still haven't got back to me.

Anyway, the trial site was created, I accessed it over the web and added another user apart from myself, went into Outlook to send a shared attachment, typed in their server address and guess what :-

"Shared attachments are not available for this location."

I spoke to CobWeb and they said that Outlook cannot create document workspaces on remote servers and that you have to create it on the website yourself and send a link.

Has anyone else had this problem.
