Hello,

We have a sun server that still has solaris 6 running.. This server happens to be our authentication server and the main DNS server... We were thinking about recreating the same type of server(name & ip address etc) on another Sun server box we have but with Solaris 9... I have had many problems trying to upgrade the solaris 6 server to solaris 9 so we thought it would be best to just do an initial clean install on the new server box with solaris 9. My question is can I pull various files from the solaris 6 box and use them with the solaris 9 operating system... Such files that reside under /etc dealing with the network and user files and also the DNS files that reside under /var/nameserver..... Thanks for any help or comments

BCNY. I know this isn't the same thing but when I switch from Solaris 6 to Solaris 9, I copied the NIS database files (/etc/auto_home, netgroup, passwd, shadow, hosts, group) from the old server to the new one. Ran /var/yp/make and everything was fine.
