Hi

I'm pretty stuck here. I'm trying to open an application (a dictionary) from inside word using Shell. The .exe file needs to load the data from another file, but this never happens. I've tried using variations of Shell that waits for the process to finish, but that doens't help at all. If I try to open the application from the run menu, it loads the data, but if I remove the path from the "Start in" entry in a shortcut in windows, it won't load the data. In other words i think that the problem is that I can't specify a path for where the .exe file is supposed to look for the data. Does any one have a clue what I'm talking about? Any help would be greatly appreciated since it's a customer who needs this.

It sounds like you are trying to use Shell to pass a parameter, which is not likely to be successful. I would try to make an executable that worked in one go to do what you want, and then run that from VBA. Perhaps make a batch file that you could test separately and then run that via VBA.
