Using sendmail to relay email to another SMTP server.,

I am getting all my email with sendmail 8.9.3 in a sendmail SMTP server. I need to now route the mail through the sendmail server to an Exchange SMTP server behind a firewall. All the HOWTOs show this task using mailertables. I don't seem to have those or any of the m4 stuff on my server for configuration.

Is this task as simple as just setting the MX record in my DNS zone info to the Exchange server or do I have to tell sendmail where to route it somehow?

We use sendmail 8.9.3 too. To modify sendmail config, you need the sendmail-cf RPM installed (assuming you're running linux) but basically you need to add the mailertable feature to you m4 config file, then edit your mailertable file, usually in /etc or /etc/mail to have something like the following line:

sendmailserver.mydomain.com smtpaddress of exchange srv)

To check if you have the config. stuff in linux, it should be installed in
/usr/lib/sendmail-cf/
and you want to be editing one of the m4 files in the cf directory.

Hi all,

I have a similar situation which I hope someone has a solution to. Currently, I need to configure my mail server (Solaris sendmail) to pass all outgoing mails to a Trend Micro Virus Wall (another Sun box) to be scanned before passing it out.

Are they any links or sample examples which I could use. I understand that this process involves editing and re-compiling of the sendmail.cf files. How involved is this process?

Any help will be most grateful.
