Hi

Background

I am currently on client site. Currently a set of financial reports within Navision are being copied into Excel where changes are made to them ie reformatting etc...

The client would like all their reports to be done within Reporting Services because they want to have reports that have various levels of drill down etc and as someone who has SQL and Reporting Services knowledge the obvious solution would be to create a stored procedure/ data views directly from Navision data and use Reporting Services to report off it.

What I am trying to achieve

I would like to know if there is another way to report directly from Navision using Reporting Services? I had heard that it is possible to generate a data set from within Navision which can be reported directly using Reporting Services but I can't find out how to do this.

The problem I have is that I have no documentation on Navision available and having gone into Navision I found myself completely stuck. There are features that suggest that you can manipulate data within Navision itself but I don't see any way of exporting data for use by Reporting Services (???)

Fundamentally I just want to know if anyone who has used Navision has any ideas on how the product is meant to integrate with Reporting Services. I am worried I am missing the obvious. Or is it just a case of accessing the back end and creating a separate data structure (independentely of Navision) ?

Any help, ideas, advice, pointers towards websites would be a tremendous help at this stage ... I really want to make sure that I understand all the options before making any decisions with regards to migrating the reports [ponder]

From what I can see it doesn;t communicate natively with Reporting Services. It can however produce xml files which Reporting Services can interact with...

Rgds, Geoff

We could learn a lot from crayons. Some are sharp, some are pretty and some are dull. Some have weird names and all are different colours but they all live in the same box.
