I have a need to provide the user with the ability to answer a prompt whereby they can select all values in a column or a particular single entry (in this case to provide a set of statistics for all dealers listed in that column or, alternatively, for a individual selected dealer).

I have found a possible solution on the Cognos Knowledge Base (i.e. Document ID 117736) but cannot really understand the description - it involves the use of two different prompt definitions (i.e. Type-In and Report Picklist).

I would be grateful if anyone could provide a better explanation of that solution or, alternatively, any other solution which would provide the functionality I require.

Assuming they would know the identity of the dealer, you could do this with a simple 'like' type in prompt, where the default is a percent (%). If the user overwrites the % with a real dealer id, they will get just that dealer. Otherwise they get all of the data for all dealers.

If you need to provide a dealer list for the user to select from, there are other alternatives but they are somewhat complicated.
