Using PRIs on HiPath 4000 as fallback to PRIs on CUCM via Q.SIG

Greetings,

Would like to understand if and how the following can be accomplished:

Building A: Cisco CUCM with 4 PRIs
Building B: Siemens HiPath 4000 with 2 PRIs

There are Q.SIG circuits integrating both PBX's for internal calling.

Would like to know if and how the PRIs on the HiPath 4000 in Buidling B can be used for outbound dialing from Building A under heavy call volume. Having the overflow calls divert through the Q.SIG circuits is not much of a question on the Cisco side, rather how will the HiPath pick-up and route this calls out the PRIs to the PSTN.

Thank you!

From the Cisco to the 4K:

You will need to do EITHER of these two things to trigger the 4K to process the call from the Cisco as an outgoing PRI call -
[ul]
[li]Send the trunk access code, e.g. "9", along with the rest of the dialed digits... OR[/li]
[li]Send the Type of Number (ISDN) and the Numbering Plan ("National" is typically used for 10-digit dialing)[/li]
[/ul]

If the "9" can be sent with the dialed digits to the 4K, then the 4K will process the call as if it were dialed locally (from a station). On the incoming QSIG trunk, the COS and the LCOSV will be treated as if the incoming trunk has placed the call, similar to a station placing the call.

If the "TON" and "NPI" can be sent, then the 4K will require AMO KNPRE to be configured to insert a "9" for all incoming calls announced as ISDN/NATIONAL.

Do not perform both, as that will result in a double "9", which will result in a failed call.

Your username is categorized as "Vendor". Are you servicing a 4K with no training? I highly recommend that you attend training. It will be an eye-opening three weeks.

I hope that this info helps.

Hi Iamnothere,

Thank you very much for the insight. This is good news... the 1st option you presented seems to be easier to manage. It appears that the goal is to send the entire digit string over Q.SIG from the Cisco CUCM. This should not be too difficult. By what you mention, the HiPath will 'see' the entire digit string coming from the Q.SIG trunk and cosider it as a dialed number from the trunk and dial the call out to through to the PSTN. So if the Q.SIG's COS and LCOSV allow for PSTN, then it is OK - correct? I'll test it out & let you know.

Concerning the 'vendor' category... I've tried to change that before but could not figure it out... it should be 'technical user' or something else... if you know how to change this, please let me know.

With regard to the training, I'm currently taking the prerequisite for the HiPath classes. It is the Intro to the system. I've worked on MAC for some time via Assistant, but Lord willing will get the full training in the near future.

Thank you very much - i appreciate the help!

You got it. I assume that you are in the USA. If/when you attend your first training class in Texas, let your instructor know that you frequently access Tek-Tips online.

Good luck!!!!

Thank you, yes USA,,, i take it you are one of the instructors or may know them? <-- yes, maybe...

just curious as to the comment "mention to your instructor that you frequent Tek-tips"... if not, I'm assuming they would be insterested in finding out that techs frequent Tek-tips... either way, if and when the opportunity comes I'll mention it...

Thank you again!
