In fact this isn't always successful as W10 can just put it back.
But you may have noticed that Microsoft are not happy with CCleaner stating that 'Registry cleaners are dangerous'.
But it might just be that they are upset that the latest versions of CCleaner, allow user to uninstall bloatware such as 'Store', 'Mail', 'News' etc
Seems to work! Nothing has come back.

I really don't think that's Microsoft singling it out. That's an individual employee expressing an opinion, and I rather suspect he'd have said something similar if he had found CleanMyPC or Registry Cleaner or RegSeeker or any of the myriad of registry cleaning apps installed instead.

The moral of the story is to only use registry cleaners when other options you've tried on your own to resolve performance issues or errors have failed. They're meant as a last resort before taking the tedious option of reloading the OS from scratch, not as a first step in troubleshooting. And when you do use them, always backup the registry first. Then if the cleaner doesn't noticeably improve or fix the issue, then simply restore the registry to its previous state.

Keep in mind as well that the free version of CCleaner is not free for commercial use. If you're in a business environment always be aware of the product's license agreement.
