Using Photoshop in "slide show" presentations

I am very happy with Photoshop and would like to make a projector "presentation" of images I have in a folder - one after the other, NOT automated, such as 5 seconds each in Premiere or Powerpoint, but accompanying a live talk or lecture, so that you just press a button to go to "next slide" on the monitor when you are done speaking about the current one. Browsing and opening an image when you have 200 images takes too long. An action that opens the next file and closes the previous one does not seem possible. Also, I cannot open more than 30 images at once, so that toggling to the next open image also does not seem possible.

Any smart ideas?

Edwin

Photoshop wont do that. You have to use another program LIke Flahs, power point or some other type of presentation program.

You could create a 'Web Photo Gallery' (File > Automate > Web Photo Gallery). Try the various options, you should get something that suits your needs.

PowerPoint does not force you to a 5-second per frame show. You can do manual advances.

You can do the web gallery thing with your image, but you will have to insert your own Java code in EACH of the pages to do anything automatically.

Power Point is the only "presentation" software that will do what he wants ( ie timing to music or narration )

Thanks. Powerpoint is too expensive and too limited for what I want, especially for layers and effects. The Web Photo Gallery does just what I want (manual one-button image advance) (THANKS AGAIN) but I don't see how to get the image to fill the screen if it is fed to a projector.

that's why web photo gallery is not what you need.

Power point is cheap ; plop down $99 to get it. Its well worth it and it isn't limited to presentations; you can make flow charts, grahpical pie charts etc.

oterhwise you can spend $200 on getting Flash to make a projector

or

$800 for Macromedia Director 8

Power point doesn't seem so expensive now does it?

Power Point has effects and transitions...You seem a little inexperienced with PowerPoint but you really should look into it.

Thanks. $99 is welcome news to me - the last time I checked you had to buy MS Office to get Powerpoint (academic), and by itself (non-academic price) it was $349 or some high price like that.

What exactly is Flash?

I pursued this question in the Premiere forum as well: Having a Premiere timeline of images ("slides") A,B,C, ... what would be wrong with selecting an identical time for each, say 1 sec., exporting the sequence to miniDV tape, and controlling the manual feed to monitor or projector with the pause button, either through device control on the computer or on the DV camcorder itself?

You are really making it way more compicated then it is.

There are many ways to do any given one thing, I all ways like to do the easiest and less time consuming. or just do what ever works for you. :)

If you want to know what Flash is then read about it at

I'd like to recommend another slide show program, Kai's Power Show. It costs around $50, compatible with both PC & Mac, immensely powerful. It can be used with video clips. You can add .wav files (sorry, no MP3's). Text editing and effects. It contains a portable player which can be burned onto CD's to create transportable shows. Extremely gentle learning curve. Wonderful program. I've used it for almost five years and swear by it as a slide show program. I'm a pro wedding photographer and I use Kai's to create digital proof books on CD or video tape. Very versatile!
