Using Outlook Express with IMAP in GW 5.5

I'm trying to get outlook express to work with IMAP. I can receive fine but I can't send out when I send and email to an external address I get this error.

The message that you sent was undeliverable to the following:
somename@hotmail.com (access denied)

I've reviewed all the settings in outlook, in nwadmin restarted gwia. Nothing has worked. Any ideas?
