Using openoffice with shared Excel spreadsheets

We have a number of excel shared spreadsheets stored on our network. I understand that openoffice can open and save excel spreadsheets, however since installing openoffice and using it we are having corruption issues with the spreadsheets when Excel users are trying to access the spreadsheets after it has been worked upon by openoffice users.

I think it may be something to do with the fact that the spreadsheet has been set up to be shared and that maybe openoffice isn't able to share the spreadsheet with a user who also has it open but within MS Excel.

Anyone any ideas or knowledge on this?

At the moment it's looking more and more like we're going to have to bite the bullet and purchase more MS Excel licenses

I have only sucessfully used that convertion to convert from excel to openoffice, never to attempt to interoperate esp at the same time.

I doubt you can use it this way, as a seamless drop in for excel.

Sorry,

Matthew

No worries, thanks for taking the time to reply.

I think I expected that to be the case anyway.

Cheers
