Hello,
A customer wants to use SNMPv3 instead of SNMPv1 for security reasons.
But he does not want to change the MIB that is written in SMIv1.

In this MIB, trapV1 are defined.
Does an SNMPv3 agent is able to send a trapV1 (I mean that the protocol is V3, but in the PDU, the type of request is 4 (trapv1))

If we consider that SMI versions are not correlated with SNMP versions, and so MIB written with SMIv1 objets can be used with SNMPV3 agent, it should.

But on another part, SMIv1 is obsolete, and on many sites, for SNMP v2 or V3, type of request=4 does not existe (obsolete).

Thanks for you responses.
Pierre

There are guidelines for moving a SMIv1 mib to SMIv2.

Most v3 agents, can send a v1 trap. At least the ones I have been around.
