Using NetMeeting with IP Office?

Hi all,

Has anyone successfully used Netmeeting with IP office?

I cannot get it working, it simply says 'The gatekeeper refused connection'

yes i have had it working, the extension needs to be configured as a voip extension though, create a new one if you are unsure, then just use the ip of the IPO to connect to
 
That seems odd that we need an IP endpoint license to use Netmeeting which is H323, but we dont need one to use Avaya's 4600 IP phones which funnily enough are also H323.

I dont know where they get off charging customers if they want to use other endpoints. We purchased an IP412, with the understanding that it also acted as a H323 gateway, and we could use H323 softphones such as Netmeeting (crap, i know) as needed.
 
I agree with your point on the additional charge for the IP endpoint, unfortunatly this is typical of Avaya

Voip will work with Avaya Ip Hardphones & with Voip trunks for switch networking.

Does anyone know what Avaya use to identify a phone as one of theirs? If it is the Mac address perhaps this could be spoofed.
 
Good thinking IP GURU, I am sure however if they drop the license issue they would just increase the cost of the VCM.
 
Avaya would probably rephrase that last comment as there justification for the additional licence fee

at a Developers conf last year they were considering licencing VCM usage by channel.

I would hope this idea would either reduce the cost of the VCM or see it included as stanadard.

it would certainly aid upgrading sites when req.
 
Resurrecting the whole subject of NetMeeting and IP Office as a client of mine has presented the question "Just what does it mean when it says the Avaya 4620 IP phone support NetMeeting?"

I too have configured NetMeeting to point to the IP Office as the H323 Gatekeeper and seen it serve as an IP softphone. However, I can't fathom how the IP phonesets themselves play any role in the use of NetMeeting. Wouldn't be a bad idea to be able to configure the NetMeeting Gatekeeper for a particular extension shared by an IP hardphone and when the call was established, be able to pickup the handset and speak (there’s your poorman’s version of an Avaya videophone!). In my experiments however, if you configure the Gatekeeper to login as a user who is equipped with a IP hard phone, that phone will essentially lockup upon attempting a call via NetMeeting, represented by no dial tone and no ability to dial out via the phone - ultimately requiring a reboot of the hardphone.

If any of you have any idea just what Avaya means when they reference NetMeeting as being supported on their IP hardphones, please let me know. Thx

Just a guess here, but I would venture they simply mean that both use h.323, therefore you could place a phone call between an IP hardphone and a netmeeting client (assuming of course you have an IP endpoints licence for the netmeeting client *grin*)
