Using MS Excel 2003 as Data Source

Hi All

Iam using a MS Excel 2003 worksheet as a data source and a coloumn has both numbers and text. When putting this field in the 'design' section of CR only the number values return and the data type has been classed as number.

I have tried to cstr and also totext and no text has appeared. I have also tried to change the coloumn in MS Excel to general so that it caters both data types, but no joy.

Please can someone help?

If you made some changes to the structure of your source you might need to verify the data again

when you say 'verify' what do you mean?

Depending on which version of CR you have

there should be an option to verify the database

with 9(I think), 10, XI is on the database menu.

it simply check for any changes instead of using cached information.

this might or might not resolve your problem but is better checking to obvious first.

tried that no joy even put that coloumn on a seperate workbook and still getting numbers appearing and not text.

In the spreadsheet, make sure the first row of data for the offending column has something other than a number, and see if that helps.

I have already tried as soon as there is a single number in a column CR will interpret it as a numeric

I have had varying degress of success with different methods. (1) put a space in the first row of the offending column. (2)In Excel, concatenate the value in the offending column with a space at the beginning concatenate(" ", a1)and then take the column with this formula and paste special, values into the offending column.

One will work one time but not the next. I have a problem now with the same spreadsheets and the same report, most of the numbers and text come into Crystal but not all.
