Using month and year

I need to write a query that asks the user to enter a month and year , then display all records whose date falls within that time period. I need to keep the format of the date in the table as mm/dd/yy.

On opening this query you will be asked to input x and y:
select ... from yourTable where month(dateCol) = x and year(dateCol) = y John Fill
