So I'm trying to use the mod_rewrite to change our the path to our intranet site from to It's cleaner for the users and I need to get rid of the ":8080" so the portal I'm using will recognize it. (using :8080 hangs it up)

I have turned on the "LoadModule rewrite_module modules/mod_rewrite.so" line and I read what they had to say at Apache.org. But I am still lost. Can anyone show me how to get Apache to recognize
Thanks!

Im not sure that you can do what you propose as:

If your web server is listening on port :8080 then you must use to address it.

Why not use port 80, or use a name-based virtual hosting?

Sorry if it's not what you wanted to hear.

Good Luck,
Laurie.

Bummer. I was hoping that it would as simple as telling Apache something like "If a browser requests send it to That's what it seemed like in the documentation, anyway...

I tried port 80 first, but we have another server running IIS that hosts our external website that is listening on port 80. What's the deal with name based virtual hosting?

Thanks for the response, it's very much appreciated!

Name_based will still cause a problem if its on :8080

What dns are you using on your intranet (I think that Microsoft dns will allow dns-to-port mappings now ??) that could help so if your dns was setup having an entry of myserver = server1:8080 then your hosts would do their client would do a dns lookup and be sent to
So your company's othere server shares the same IP address as this server then? If thats all teh problem is then if its intranet then just use an internal IP address like 192.168.0.n or 10.0.0.n and move the port back to 80

Problem solved?

Laurie.
