I'm trying to use mkdvd to make an iso image to use to boot/create lpars from the vio. I have some success doing it but sometimes it fails or appears to just hang. When it appears to hang I see the following:

gpmshub(root)[pts/8]/tarbackups # mkdvd -m /tarbackups/geo.mksysb -S -V tarvg
Initializing mkdvd log: /var/adm/ras/mkcd.log...
Verifying command parameters...
Creating temporary file system: /mkcd/cd_fs...
Populating the CD or DVD file system...
Building chrp boot image...

Is there a certain AIX level the mksysb or the system running the mkdvd need to be? The mksysb I'm using is from a system running 5300-09-08-1036. The system running the mkdvd command is running 5300-12-05-1140.

Thanks for any help.

I would suggest using NIM. It is far more convenient and easy to manage.

5.3 goes out of support at the end of April, time you moved up to something more recent like 6.1 or straight to 7.1 me thinks!

Then you can enjoy all the benefits (and fixes) in the later levels :0)
