using MC's at runtime

I am wondering if there is an easier way to run movie clips in the library at run time. I am currently using two methods.

1) putting a movie clip that consists of a transparent square on the stage & when I want the mc to run - I just use an attachmovie handler on the transparent square so my mc runs in the appropriate place.
2) I have the mc on the stage on frame 1 but just transparent & when I want the clip to run I sent AS commands which make it visible.

Is there an easier way to get my mc's out of the library and on the stage where I want them at runtime? please help.

You can use either, or you can even attach it directly to the main timeline (_root or _level0), no real need to attach it to some empty movie clip...
