Using LPT interrupt for precise timing

How to incorporate hardware interrupt available on LPT for prompt signaling to QBasic? I need to implement pulse interval measurement through LPT (or COM) with a 20-40 microsecond accuracy... Usage of timer from the 8254 chip has been described.
