I've just started using a local DNS server for Internet Mail
but I got a lot of messages failing to send because of resolution failing. The DNS server I use locally actually is a forwarded and goes to an internet DNS server to resolve which takes a few seconds. What I think is happening is that the server that is running the Internet Mail Gateway is timing out waiting for DNS resolution so reporting a failure to exchange, which just requeues the message to try again later. But I could be wrong.
We've got all the timeouts right on the DNS server and web browsers which use it have no problems.
Is there anywhere in Exchange or on a server using DNS where longer timeouts can be set so the server will pester the DNS server for longer before giving up?
Thanks
