Is it possible to have multiple IP addresses on one NIC to allow a laptop user to plug the laptop in to different LANs in the domain we do not want to use DHCP [sig][/sig]
It is not possible to have more than one IP address assigned to a NIC at a time. However, there are ways to change the IP address based upon a Dos multiboot menu selection. This would take the form of a registry import in the autoexec.bat to set which static IP address you want.
If you need detailed help on that subject let me know.
Under NT it is possible to add up to 5 IP addresses to one nic card in the advance setting of TCP/IP Properties Ive done it with two and with two other machines on that LAN pinged both addresses but can only see the network on the primary tcp/ip address why is this then posible [sig][/sig]
using the same network card and server. The virtual IP addresses defined on the network card are resolved by DNS to unique host names.
Seems to users like different web sites but are actually running on the same server and NIC card.
Instead of fighting multiple addresses and whatnot ( which you CAN put on 95/98/NT or 2000) Try something like Netswitcher which lets you put together various IP network configs for the laptop and the user picks which one they need. The greatest beni is that many times, it does not need to reboot for the changes to take effect unlike when you change them from control panel or wherever. It will make your life much easier then hacking the reg.
