have just run AVG on my machine to find an alarming 700 + files, most of which are .exes

quite a few files i need from the infected exes as they are mainly self extracting cabinets.

as im running AVG now, even though the files are infected if i extract them would the files be infected and two would AVG stop the virus (parite) ?

It should clean all the files it can. Those it can't clean it should quarantine.

Try a free trial download of something like sophos, Norton or McAfee. These are much sophisticated than AVG
Set it to disinfect files.
Any that can't be cleaned should be deleted as they may will infect your pc again, and worse, other peoples.

Stu..

Oh course I'll come back at lunchtime. When is it? Oh thats a shame, so's mine.
