Using IDE3 and IDE4 instead of raid 1

Hello,

I have an ABIT KG-7 Raid. I've no experience with raid and have no experience with more than 2 IDE connections. The manual says that ATAPI devices should not be placed on IDE 3 or 4 - just hard drives. Instead of setting up raid, I want to put my cd-rw and dvd-rom as masters. Can I put the HD on IDE3? Do I have to disable raid? Any advice will be appreciated!

Yes I have my daughters Abit Raid BE6-2v2 set as you have said, software for the 370 highpoint controller still was loaded, single Seagate Barracuda IV on IDE3, CDrom and CDRW on IDE1 & IDE2 all Masters.
The reason I did this in my case was I had a UDMA100 hard drive and IDE's 1&2 are only UDMA66 on this motherboard yet the highpoint 370 is UDMA100.
All works fine. Martin Just trying to help, sometimes falling short, I am only human after all.
