I have been trying to install AIX 5L using Hyperterminal and the serial port as a console, but I can't get anything to display. What am I doing wrong? I am using a straight throught cable (serial cable, not a null-modem cable).
Model: 7043-170
Hyperterminal: 9600,8n1

Thanks in advance,

You will need to use a null modem cable and it will need to be wired for hardware flow control because during boot the RS6000 switches from software to hardware flow control, so if you buy a cheap one you may find it shows some display during the startup but the display stops as soon as AIX takes control.

The 9600,8n1 should be OK.

I found the following on a bit of parer, I don't think the 9-9 is important but the 4-6-1 and the 7-8 are.

RXD 2------3 TXD
TXD 3------2 RXD
DTR 4------6 DSR
'--1 DCD
GND 5------5 GND
DSR 6------4 DTR
DCD 1--'
RTS 7------8 CTS
CTS 8------7 RTS
RIN 9------9 RIN

Have fun, and good luck.
