I am using Crystal 9, Oracle 9.2 database. I have a report based on inventory date transactions which, based on parameter dates for those transactions, gives part quantities. I need to add a column which will give the qty balance forward of each part, in other words, historical data. I have tried using a subreport inserted, however, this is not the best way to see this. The user would like to see the prev. balance, current additions, and a sum of both on the same report.
Can I use the subreport as a link to the other tables? I've tried saving the historical data as an Excel file and linking that, still not the best way.
Any suggestions would be great. There has to be a way to leave historical data intact and join it to a current report???

One approach is to manually or automatically take snapshots of the data and store it in a database. While Crystal can export to ODBC it is limited to creating a new table each time you do the export.

The good news is that there are 3rd party tools (see list at: that can help.

For a 1-page pdf describing how this can be achieved using my Visual CUT software, see:
- Ido

view, e-mail, export, burst, distribute, and schedule Crystal Reports.

You can group by date, maybe group by year within part number, or whatever it is you use. Do running totals based on the year, and show the results in the group footer of the part-number group. Does this help?
