I have a few questions on the subject;

1) Is it possible? IOW, could you connect up to 4 IDE devices to the ATA-100 connectors and up to 4 to the ATA-66 (or slower) connectors at the same time, for a maximum of 8?

2) If so, how would this appear in the BIOS? Would you have two primary masters, two primary slaves, etc?

3) If it would work, would the total bandwidth limit be 166MB/s or 100MB/s?

TIA

If you are using a Promise card, the BIOS doesn't see it. SO you can have up to 8 drives on your pc (if you have two IDE on the mb). Mary :)

Rule 1: Don't sweat the small stuff.
Rule 2: EVERYTHING is small stuff!! X-)

To clear it up, the ATA/100 controler, acts more like a SCSI adapter, than it does an IDE Addon, as a result, the motherboard can use both, and is not restricted to the 2 channel only IDE.

Now an older IDE Controler, like I used to use back with 386, yea you could only use on board, or you could use on the card.

The promise ATA controler has it's own bios, the computer's bios will not see the drives connected on the promise ata controler. Windows and other devices, will see this as a SCSI controler, or as a Mass Media Controler.

you can boot off the Promise controler, but I think it'll be like the first master drive found on it. Karl Blessing aka kb244{fastHACK}
