What i am looking to do is trying to use Group Policy to have a default way of setting up a new account when it is added to a computer. Meaning all the standard mapped drives/printers and such are already there. Is this possible?

Yes. You can use a vb script in a GPO to map the drives. If the DC is 2003 R2, there is also some functionality to manage printers that way as well. If it's not 2003 R2, you can use vb instead. Markdmac's excellent tutorials in the FAQ section here will certainly help.
