Using E-Mail Headers?

How would I use e-mail headers. Unfortunately when I google "Using E-Mail Headers" I get a bunch of security articles about spam. I want to be able to send and receive headers. For example, I send an e-mail to my PDA device and it contains a special header. I want to return it so that the contents of the e-mail could be manipulated properly. Is there any hope for this?

might mailparse help you? i think the code has now migrated out of the build and into a PECL extension.

or you could always just parse the mail in the normal way - the headers are just text.
