Hi Tek-Tips users,
I am jr. system admin for a large company. We have over 1200 users, most with workstations and about 20% with laptops as well. We also host and administer 70+ servers.
For the most part we use MS windows server 2008, and 2003.
I wanted to post a simple way to use dumpsec to generate a report showing all users in a security group.
At first I was stumped. I use dumpsec all the time to generate reports and was never tasked with the following.
But here is what I found, and I hope it helps someone out there.
TO GENERATE A LIST OF SECURITY GROUPS WITH MEMBERS (USERS) LISTED IN EACH, DO THE FOLLOWING:
1. OPEN DUMPSEC
2. CLICK "REPORT"
3. CLICK "Dump Groups as Column..."
4. Remove "Comment", "GroupType", and "MemberType"
5. Ensure "Group", and "GroupMember" are selected.
6. Click "OK"
This should generate a nice report showing each user in the group.
If you want to sort, you can substitute step 3 with "Dump Groups as Table" then copy that report to Excel and sort.
Hope that helps.
