Using Documentation Library Services as a site search engine

My organization would like to use the built-in Documentation Library Services application as a site search engine. I've read the AIX documentation on how to set up the search services, how to create indicies, and how to start the application. However, there is no mention whether or not the results page the application returns can be customized. The level of customization provided by the application is not enough.

Does anyone know if this is possible?

Perhaps someone can suggest of a good website search engine.
