Hi I have always found it hard when making brochures where I have type set to baseline grid, if I dont I can have inconsistent spacing between loose paragraphs. If I need to budge some type for something it wont show the type until it is snapped to the next grid line which may not be where I need it to shift to.I have just played around with the document grid and set grid lines to measurement of space between text lines so I snap paragraph bounding to grid and can manually snap my paragraphs also and keep the space between paragraphs and photos etc consistent on this grid, it also seems I can base margins on this grid as well...is this a good way to work or will I run into problems further ahead by dumping baseline grid

Thanks for you opinions

Sam

...grids are fine to use, but they require various calculations...grid calculator can help you a lot:

...but yes, you wil always have the problem of trying to fit a given amount of text within a strict space...

...this is what makes typography tricky to master and the web isn't much different in this regard.

...if working to baseline grids and needing to stick to the grid your only options sometimes are to edit the text to make it shorter by wording it differently if you struggle for space...same for when your not using a grid.
