I'm just curious if anyone has run into glaring problems using the new version of Crystal Reports with Pervasive 2000i. I'd hate to upgrade and end up with egg on the face.

You might want to post this on the Macola forum. There is a guy there, handle is dgillz, who is a Crystal Reports/PSQL animal.

I have several clients running v9 of crystal and p.sql 2000i and once pervasive is up and running, I have never heard of a problem.

I have one client running crystal 9 with pervasive SQL v8 with no problems.

One thing I would be wary for is look out for old apps that run on older versions of btrieve. I had a situation about 5 years ago where the credit manager had a Dun & Bradstreet appplication that ran on Btireve 6.15 (she was the only one that used this app) and the main ERP app Macola was run on Pervasive SQL v7.

The client componenets of v7 were differnet than the clinet components of 6.15, so this D&B app stopped working.

Hey thanks you guys for your help, you've definately addressed most of my conerns. I appreciate your replies. I just found out something a little disturbing about this database though, apparantly its still only running SP2. So now I'm looking into whether we need to update to SP3 and SP4. I guess some people have had trouble with Pervasives Service Packs, have you guys ever encountered problems?

Ren

PS If I could vote you guys points I would.

Your service pack level should match whatever the major application you have running on the PSQL platform recommends. If you go past it or below it you could end up with problems either way. I do know for a fact that SP3 fixed some major bugs, especially in the ODBC subsystems, and that would definately affect Crystal.

Hmmm I hadn't thought about it in that way, thats a very good point, thanks.

Some of the issues dealing with Crystal Reports v9 and PSQL2000i, Crystal really doesn't have a good engine to optimize the SQL Querys, And if really need speed, especially with some of the more complex wierd Database querys. I've had to use the SQL Query Tool, that comes with Crystal, and and manually feed the Data to it instead of letting it try to Outer Join the Query to Death. In some cases (date range multi YTD comparson Sales Reports) I've had a 3x speed increase.
One more thing there is a Server Side patch, which fixes a big problem( to us anyway) it corrects a problem with the USmallInt Value sometimes it will return a Incorrect value. This is on current SP lvl, The Hotfix needs to be added In addition to SP4.
