Hello all,

Is there a way to put a button in an email, and have it launch an exe off of a universal network share?

i.e. we have a file we want everyone to run, but don't want to send it to everyone due to size (150mb), but want to have a button "Click here to upgrade" and have that launch a file on a network share "\\server\share\setup.exe"

Any way to do this using a button (using formulas, lotusscript or javascript), or would it have to be done through a link or a "setup.ink" attachment? I haven't been able to find any references towards such.

Help is greatly appreciated

If you can make a URL to the file location that works in a browser, you can just paste that same URL in a button in Notes, or in a link hotspot, and your problem is solved.

Thanks for the response...

Now as a URL link I can do '\\server\share\file.exe' and have it work fine, the biggest problem with that is that if a user saves the file, it wouldn't work as the install files are on the share drive.

Is there a way to force it to run with the click of a link or button?

Saving on a shared resource is a network issue, not a Notes issue.
What is it you want to "force" to run ? I gathered that your link launched the file.

It probably comes down to me wanting to over-ride some of windows built in security (i.e. to prompt to download open or run a file).

But in reality all I want it to do is make the link or button the same as it would be if I double clicked the file on the network share.

When done as a link, it opens a LN webbbrowsing session, says page cannot be displayed and the brings the standard windows download from the internet type box (open / save / cancel). It then proceeds to bring another box (at least for SP2 users) run or cancel. It then finally starts the install we are going for...Also, since it is not a stand-alone executable, and relys on dlls and datafiles in the share where it resides, if a user hits save, and then double clicks it on his desktop, it will fail...

Our goal is to have the user hit a buttone, and let the install process do its thing. Otherwise we have to worry about the things mentioned above as well as possibly creatin a self-extracting or zip file with all the files in it, and trust the user to extract and then run it. We are going for as little user intervention as possible. Just click and go ideally.

Is this possible at all?

Have you tried using @command([Execute]) ? It seems to fit your bill to the letter.
