Hi,

At this moment we're using brightstor with the exchange agent. Bricklevel backup seems to go fine, but backing up the whole database gives an error. (read/write error in named pipes) There seems something wrong with either the harddisk of the server or the exchange database.

Looking at the eventlogs there are messages like:
bad block on [address]
The server still works fine, but when something really bad happens I guess it's over.

So my question is:
what if I install a complete new server and restore the bricklevel backup from the "old" server to the new server. Would that work?

And if that would work, do I really need to create the existing users first?

I would suggest doing an offline backup of the Exchange server and restoring it to another server. This way you will backup up exchange at a flat file level.
The bricks level restore is not a viable option as yes you would need to create the entire mailbox structure again.
