using autocad solid objects in 3-d studio viz ?

When I import a autocad drawing with solid objects the objects show all the faces that make up that solid. This is a real problem when trying to apply a fabric to the object becuase it applys to each face.
I have also tried to save the file in Autocad as a 3ds file and it still happens.
Can anyone PLEASE!!!!!! help
