Has anyone used an SSD instead of a hard drive in either a BCM50 or 450? If so can you advise what type you used. I understand that not all makes and types will work.

Yes some do.

Click on Search up top and type in SSD Drive
and
Click on FAQ and look near the bottom

Got it thanks. How long ago is it that you posted your guide Firebird? I have a customer who wants SSDs in the BCMs we supply so i need to find one that is both current and will work.

Thanks for the help from both of you. In the end I couldn't easily get hold of the SSD mentioned in Firebird's note, however, the company I use for hard drives also stocks SSDs and they suggested an alternative - this one - SSDSC2BB160G4 INTEL 160GB SATA 6G 7MM SSD. I had one delivered yesterday and am happy to say it works fine. The good thing is, it didn't cost much more than a hard drive (it is refurbished) so it is a really good alternative.
