Using AcroExch COM

Hello -- I am trying to retrieve document properties out of PDF documents using any (and all) AcroExch COM objects and nothing's working. First I tried it with only the Reader installed and I only got errors, but then I read that you have to have full Acrobat installed. I downloaded the "tryout" demo version (full version, expires in 30 days) and though I'm not getting errors it hangs indefinitely. It does, however, open acrobat.exe so that's a bonus.

Any ideas? Do I need a "full" full version, do you think?
