Hi all,

I'm using an Access Auto-number field in a table as no combination of the other fields will provide a fool-proof primary key. However, I can't get Access to use Autonumber when I'm importing records from a CSV file. Either I'm doing something wrong or autonumber was never desgined with this in mind. If the latter is true has anyone got any ideas about how to do this with VBA/macro etc.

many thanks,

Al

I've never needed to do this but . . .

I'd place the autonumber field at the end of the table, hide it if you like, then import the data.

Alt: run an update query.
