Using a URL inside of a e-mail.

I cannot seem to find anything that will allow me to execute a URL which is in an email. The process works fine in the IE and everybody tells me it is just a setting but I cannot find anything which allows this.

I receive an e-mail that has a URL in the body of the text and when I click on the URL nothing happens. If I save the URL as a favorite then bring up the browser then I can go directly to the site refeenced.

I hope this clarifies the problem and thanks for answering so quickly

Open Windows Explorer.
Go to Tools | Folder Options | File Types.
Scroll down to URL:HyperText Transfer Protocol and select it.
Click Edit or Advanced, depending on your Windows version.
Select 'open'.
Click Edit.

"Application used to perform this action" should read:

"C:\PROGRAM FILES\INTERNET EXPLORER\iexplore.exe" -nohome
(Check the path to iexplore.exe to make sure that is correct and use the
double quotes.)

DDE should be checked and in the boxes below it you should have:

#2
IExplore
#3 (blank)

URL:HyperText Transfer Protocol with Privacy should be the same

The bcastner "70% of the time or better it fixes it" fix:

Open a notepad session and copy/paste the below as Ie_fix.cmd

regsvr32 urlmon.dll
regsvr32 Shdocvw.dll
regsvr32 Msjava.dll
regsvr32 Actxprxy.dll
regsvr32 Oleaut32.dll
regsvr32 Mshtml.dll
regsvr32 Browseui.dll
regsvr32 Shell32.dll

Double click the new notepad file ie_fix.cmd and answer the prompts.

bcastner, I have seen you use this fix for a number of different problems.
Is it a fill assocciation type fix, why would the dlls get unregistered originally?

As you noted, re-registering some DLLs will repair association issues.

It has been my personal experience that some association and tcp/ip areas of the registry are "brittle", they are easily broken.

In part because they are very complicated. The OS responsibility for the file system is going to get more, not less, involved if you have read the news about or have used Longhorne and Whitby. I have not noted this in this Forum, but I was made by Microsft an MVP - Windows Networking, and will be in Redmond/Seattle for four days in April. Very high on my list of questions for the XP/Longhorne team will be why there is not an easy to use Association repair tool, and why there is not a better alternative to repairing TCP/IP than netsh.exe. (I have a longer set of gripes/questions).

Receiving the MS-MVP honor was quite a thrill for me. I thought of doing a "lightbulb" announcement here, but my arm was too sore from patting myself on the back already.

I likely will do a "lightbulb" request to All for any specific gripes or missing features prior to my trip to the MS site in Redmond, WA in April.

I am told one has to have a very thick skin to survive the four days unscathed. It is not uncommon to make a suggestion to the product team and get told, in detail, why the suggestion is inappropriate or stupid beyond belief. It is a rough-and-tumble setting, and I think I will survive it without scars.

I have tried all the things mentioned in these replies and have progressed to the point where when I click on an URL and the browser comes up and tells me it can't find the page.

Also I get the following in the address box of the browser page:

http:///

does anybody have any further suggestions.
