Insert - Field, Equation or Formula, then select EQ, and after it(still in the dialog box) type "\o(v,9)" (without the quotes). Hit OK all the way out and then select the symbol you have just created. Change it to CommercialPI BT font, and make it any size you want. If you need help, search Word help for the word "Overstrike".
Look at the other fonts and see if you have a sqyuare symbol, and a + in the same font. If so, you can substitute that font, and the letters or characters that they represent. The equation I gave you will overstrike the v and the 9. You can see Microsoft's explanation at
