Hey All

I was just wondering if it were possible to do a numbered list showing each record. Before you jump the gun, and tell me I should use "autonumber" with each record, some records will be deleted etc., so wont count exactly 1, 2, 3, ... etc.

Basically, its a table showing students grades, and on the LHS, numbering from 1, 2, ... til whatever.

Thanks, David.

Hi

If it is just a visual numbering you want, rather than something stored in the table, have you thought of using the .AbsolutePosition property of the recordset ?

Since this is a report forum, I think you can add a text box to the detail section and set its control source to =1. Then set its Running Sum to over all. This will not give records with the same value, the same number. It will number each record uniquely like you have asked.

Hi

Well spotted Duane, I was not alert enough to think of the forum we are in, and assumed it was a form related question

David,
Keep in mind that ties will not get the same number ie:
1 95
2 93
3 90
4 90
5 87
6 85

If you need 3 and 4 above to both be 3 then you will need to calculate the value in the query or use some other method.
