Using a month and quarter as a parameter

I have a report that I need to select records by month or by quarter. The field that I will use for the parameter is an Oracle type date field (class.start_date). How can I create a paramter where the user inputs a month (e.g, "Jul') and it will return all records where the class start date is in July?

Additionally, I need to use a parameter where the user will have the ability to select all records by a quarter (i.e., Jan, Feb, Mar for 1st quarter).

Could you use StartDate and EndDate params? That way the user can determine the time span of report. This will also enable a semi and annual reporting if you so desire. If you need only monthly and quarterly time period, you could put in an edit where EndDate-StartDAte<=3.

Thanks for the help. I plan to follow your advice and let the users selected records via a start date and end date range paramter.
