I'm using this formula =COUNTIF($A$2:$A$56500,A2) to see how many times the contents of column A is repeated. Works great!
The contents in column A are "Part Numbers" the contents in column B are the quantity of the "Part Numbers" that I have.
What I am trying to do is find when column A has duplicates and then add the quantities up so that I have a total number of "Part Numbers" for each Part Number.
I hope I made that clear!!!
Any help, as usual, is GREATLY appreciated
Carl

hi carl
you could try using subtotals just to get the figures you're looking for

sort your list then choose data>subtotals
choose each change in product
use sum
add subtotal to stock (or whatever)
from the little buttons that appear to the left of the sheet, click '2'

if i've over simplified this, it's a start anyway!

;-) If a man says something and there are no women there to hear him, is he still wrong?

I had never seen or used the Subtotals until now, it's exactly what I was looking for, and a lot less hassel than I expected. THANKS!....A star for

And yes, he is still wrong! :)

use the pivot table report
it will give you the counts of each distinct item in column A (if this is what you're looking for)
