Hello helpful Tekies,

I'm trying to create a user-friendly interface for a contacts database in Access. First, I'll describe what I want to happen and second, what works and what doesn't right now.

1. From a switchboard form the user clicks on a button "find contacts"
2. Unbound form comes up prompting user for last name and/or first name and/or firm name.
3. Another form the "view and change form" comes up, one record per page, which allows the user to scroll through the results, and make changes to a limited number of fields.

Note: I've made all this work when the end product is a report, and not a form. So I've been following the same procedure, only it's not working this time. Opening the "view and change form" launches the query, but not the input form associated with it (just little windows parameter input boxes).

Any ideas?

Or Do you need more information on how I've set it up?

Thanks for your help!

Take a look at this thread of mine:

It may help you out.

Thanks Mike. The sample database in that thread may come in handy in the future. Unforuntately, this doesn't really solve my problem.

My question to everyone out there is why does my using a dialog box to obtain criteria for a query that outputs to a report work fine, but does not work when the output is data for a form.

How the report is set up is the "on open" property contains reference to a macro "open form" that opens my dialog box, which prompts the user for criteria (a date range, for example), and the results are then placed into a report. In setting up the same "on open" macro in the form properties, it doesn't work.

Any other ideas?

I'm guessing that in the form properties area, there is one more thing I need to do. But I can't figure out what it is.
