Using a find text function is an expression

I need to find the position of the first space in a field using an expression.

In Excel I use the @FIND command. However, using Acess 2002, I cant find a matching expression

What I'm aiming to to is extract the user ID from a field but the length is variable, so I need to stop at the first space. I've got the LEFT command OK but need to say where it goes up to.
